The death of a loved one is a time of sadness and sorrow. At a civil funeral you have the opportunity to not only say good bye to your loved one, but also to celebrate their life.

Can you officiate over a funeral?

Yes, I am a family and funeral celebrant.

Where do we have the service?

Many people have the funeral service in a crematorium or a funeral home. If the remains are waked at home, the first part of the service can be performed there, before going to the grave yard or crematorium. There are no rules, and I am happy to discuss your plans with you.

What are the restrictions with a civil funeral?

Really there are none. A civil funeral is not based on any religion or faith. The family can have any type of music, poems and prose they would like. You are of course welcome to include hymns and prayers, but I am unable to perform any sacraments or religious rituals. Together we will create a meaningful and personal tribute for your loved one.

How do we get started?

When you have contacted the Funeral Director, please get in touch with me, either by phone +353 (0) 874437498, email hello@thecivilcelebrant.ie or via the contact form at the bottom of the Home Page. I will then meet with you and your family to arrange your loved ones funeral ceremony. I will guide you through every step of the service, and provide you with lots of ideas for poems, prose, readings and music.

Preparing for a civil funeral ceremony:

• Meet with the family of the deceased, outline the ceremony and gather information to prepare a fitting tribute.
• Liaise with the Funeral Director
• Draft funeral ceremony
• Speak with or meet with family to finalise the ceremony
• Final draft of funeral ceremony and practice.
• Officiate funeral ceremony and committal
• Travel from funeral home to graveyard or crematorium.

Families may be preparing a funeral service before their loved one has died. If this reflects your circumstances, please get in touch and I can work with you and your loved one to create a very special funeral ceremony.
