When someone you love dies, you are often told that you have to be strong, to remember the good times you shared and to just move on. Yet grieving well is not a process of erasing grief but rather a process of making it more liveable.
What gets in the way of healing? Why are some deaths more diffcult to get over than others? Why do the tears keep flowing well after the death? Loss & Grief Counseling is another form of psychotherapy that helps individuals cope with the loss of a loved one or various other issues that cause feelings of loss. Loss & grief counselling provides a much-needed outlet for the grieving individual to be able to express the emotions and their feelings behind the loss they have suffered. During the counselling sessions, effective ways of dealing with the grief will be discussed. These tools vary per the individual and are implemented to allow for complete healing and ultimately acceptance. Everyone grieves in their own way. The goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment in which to encourage healing and eventually, making peace with their loss.
Therapy Methods
Dr. Thomas primarily incorporates three methods she finds invaluable in helping her clients obtain successful outcomes:
- she gets down to the “roots” of their issues,
- she empowers her clients to identify and change their negative patterns, thoughts, and feelings into more positive, accurate ones, and
- she provides a warm, nonjudgmental, and interactive environment in which her clients can feel comfortable and emotionally secure so they can better reach their goals and resolve their issues.
With these combined methods, clients can create more balanced, meaningful, and joyous lives and achieve much more durable, longer-lasting results from therapy.
