We’re Ready to Get Started on Writing a Beautiful Eulogy For Your Loved One…
About Our Family-Owned Memorial Company
Established in 1942, we are a family-owned and operated business. We are four generations of dedicated craftsmen who understand the profound importance of honoring and preserving the memories of your loved ones.
Our exquisitely crafted gravestones stand as lasting tributes to the lives that have touched our hearts and the legacies that continue to inspire us.
Under the leadership of Mary-Martha and Nicholas Evtimov, we are continuing our family’s proud tradition of faithfully served families in the Forsyth, Stokes, and Surry County area.
We will take great care of you and your family, as we have done with other families for over 80 years.
About Our Headstones, Grave Markers and Specialty Monuments
We offer a wide range of products in a variety of stones and metals. You are sure to find a beautiful memorial marker that suits your needs and your budget.
Our master craftsmen, with decades of experience, will bring your vision to life with unmatched precision and care. Every curve, every detail, is meticulously sculpted to perfection.
We are able to create any memorial marker you wish to have, including:
- Single Upright Headstone – A single upright headstone is a vertical monument placed at the head of a single grave plot to memorialize a single individual. It is made of two stones – an upright die and a base. A single upright headstone is the most common type of memorial for honoring the life and memory of a single person.
- Companion Upright Headstone – A double headstone is like a single headstone but for two burial spaces beside or on top of each other. This type of headstone is larger than a typical single headstone and can feature more text, illustrations, symbols, and other designs. It is also usually used by couples who want to be together even in death.
- Flat Markers – These act in the same way as single or double headstones, as they can be used to engrave the same information, but they can also are a cost efficient way to honor a family member or loved one. Flat Markers do not require a base to sit on.
- Slants – These are the beginning introduction to upright monuments. Slants tend to be a more cost efficient option and they can go directly in the ground or on top of a base.
- Bronze Plaques – These can be placed on upright or flat markers. At Cooke and Mabe we only provide the highest quality bronze to our customers
- Moravian Markers – We import the Colorado Yule marble that Moravian markers are made out of, (Unlike a lot of suppliers today who import the marble from Vietnam).
- Specialty Monuments – We provide access to some of the best stone craftsman in the world, and our specialty headstones allow for families to satisfy their individual needs.

America’s #1 Eulogy Writing Service
Does writing a eulogy just feel too hard? You are not alone! Many people feel exactly the same as you do.
Between the grief, the time it takes to plan for a funeral, and the fact that most people aren’t eulogy writing experts, writing a eulogy can feel like an overwhelming task.
But not to worry. There is a solution!
Do yourself a favour and hire a professional writer at The Eulogy Writers. Not only are they highly-experienced, they truly care about helping people during this most difficult time.
They are able to write both religious and secular eulogies. They will take your stories and special memories of your loved one and craft a eulogy that is more beautiful than you could have imagined.
Here is what a few clients who have used their services had to say:
“I want to thank you, Steve, and your staff of writers. I couldn’t have done it without you. You made it possible for me to deliver a speech that everyone enjoyed. Some even cried. I will definitely recommend this website to my friends if they would ever need a eulogy writing service in the future.” ~ Byron C.
“I can’t thank you enough for your help in preparing the eulogy for my Mom. You took my scattered thoughts and memories and composed the most beautifully written eulogy that really captured her essence. I’m so happy I found your website. Many blessings to you.” ~ Edie M.
“I am so impressed by how you were able to take all the “stuff” I gave you and write the story. I am sure, doing this as you do for many others, it is impossible to put in all of the memories that flood one’s heart upon the death of a loved one, yet you were able to take the important points and see the whole story. This was done wonderfully well. Thank you very very much.” ~ Paula D.

What is Aquamation?
Water-based Aquamation is a method of final disposition. Aquamation does in hours what nature does in months and years as part of nature’s course when a body is laid to rest. Through a combination of water flow, temperature, and alkalinity, we accelerate nature’s process of tissue hydrolysis to return the body to its natural form.
We find that many families are grateful to have a choice, and some prefer a process that does not use fire or flame. Many believe this to be a gentle option, and value the decreased carbon foot print it leaves.
With Aquamation, an individual body is gently placed in a container that is then placed in a sterile stainless steel vessel. A combination of 95% water and 5% alkali (sodium and potassium hydroxide) are used, in the process of tissue hydrolysis. These alkalis are safe for the environment and are the same alkalis that are used in many common household products.
Upon the completion of the process, the water is returned to the ecosystem via the normal wastewater treatment facility. The Aquamation process produces a completely sterile solution of amino acids, sugars, nutrients, salts, and soaps in a water solution. These are all by-products of natural decomposition.
Aquamation preserves approximately 20% more remains of your loved one. These remains are 100% safe, pathogen and disease free, and consist simply of bone material (calcium phosphate). Families may keep the Aquamated remains in an urn, inter them in a grave or niche, or scatter them in a special place.
Why You Should Consider Aquamation
Many people believe that Aquamation is an extremely environmentally-friendly choice because there are almost zero emissions admitted into the atmosphere during this process.
Many families who are concerned about the environment believe this to be a gentle process and prefer this process because no vapourized mercury emissions and no filtration or abatement systems required. Mercury from dental amalgam is contained and recycled, not vapourized.
Furthermore, caskets are not burned, which protects our natural resources and produces a decreased carbon footprint.
Finally, by-product (effluent) is safe with no harmful chemical or microbial contamination.
Please feel free to peruse our aquamation information page which covers commonly asked questions.

What Makes US Different
Cost-Effective Funeral Services
We are owned and operated by John Cunningham, a fully licensed funeral director for since 1985. He believes families deserve choices regarding funeral arrangements, as much as at any other time of life. That’s why, in 2004, he opened Community Alternative Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd. on Hunter Street, just west of the bridge.
“I had worked at other funeral homes in the past and I could see that while there were a number of good funeral homes, there just wasn’t a lot of choice for families when it came to the cost of funeral services.” said Cunningham, who owns the business with his wife, Heather, a local teacher.
“We are a full-service traditional funeral home that provides families with an alternative to the traditionally high cost of funeral services. Until we opened, there just wasn’t a lot of choice.”
